Beaufort, Bluffton, and Hilton Head SC
Most people do not naturally have perfect teeth. You likely have a filling or two. In many cases, adults have metal fillings, which must be replaced eventually. Silver fillings tend to damage existing tooth structures, leak, fall out, or cause the tooth to break entirely. However, ceramic or porcelain restorations often are the go-to solution for repairing these damaged teeth. The best part is that at Chris Mohler, DDS, we use CEREC® technology to fabricate the most natural-looking restorations during one appointment. Dentists all around the world have used CEREC technology for more than 30 years. Find out why CEREC technology is the preferred method of tooth restoration in Beaufort.
What is CEREC Technology?
CEREC technology at our Beaufort dental office consists of an intraoral camera that is used to capture digital pictures of your teeth. These digital images are used in place of traditional goopy impressions. Using specially designed computer software, the images convert to a 3D virtual model of your tooth. Dr. Mohler expertly designs the restoration on the computer, meticulously marking the margins for the best fit. Then, the imagery is sent to our in-office CEREC Milling Unit.
CEREC Milling Unit
The dental assistant places a ceramic block into our CEREC Milling Unit. The ceramic chosen will match your existing teeth. Then, the machine uses data collected from your digital impressions to carve out a precise, natural-looking dental restoration. The process may take about 10 minutes, depending on the size of the restoration. Once the milling is complete, it is time for your try-in. Dr. Mohler places the restoration on your tooth, adjusting as necessary. The final step is to bake the ceramic restoration in a glazing oven, before permanently bonding it to your tooth.
Uses for CEREC Restorations
Dr. Mohler may recommend porcelain restorations to repair large cavities or areas of damage or replace old metal fillings. We also use CEREC technology to fabricate porcelain inlays or onlays, crowns, or veneers while you wait. You can leave your appointment with a restored smile so that you can get on with your day.
Benefits of CEREC Technology
